The cardiovascular system has the important task of transporting blood, oxygen and nutrients around the body. These are released via the arteries into the organs and body tissues. The small circulatory system pumps blood rich in carbon dioxide and oxygen from the heart to the lungs and back.
With age, signs of wear and tear can develop – including in the functioning of our heart and blood vessels. An unhealthy lifestyle can also promote cardiovascular diseases. High blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, arteriosclerosis or venous thrombosis are life-threatening cardiovascular diseases that can be prevented with a healthy diet and lifestyle. But genetic predispositions or previous illnesses in the family can also be risk factors for the heart, circulation and blood vessels.
So what can we do to support the heart and vessels in their complex tasks?
A lot of exercise (in the fresh air, even in old age), deceleration in everyday life (avoid stress), abstaining from nicotine and a healthy diet are the top priorities here. To keep our cardiovascular system running at peak performance, it needs numerous vitamins and micro-nutrients. The unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids EPA & DHA in particular are credited with strengthening the heart. Particularly rich in omega-3 (EPA & DHA) is fatty fish (e.g. salmon, mackerel or anchovy). Other important vitamins and trace elements for heart (muscle) & vessels are: magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin C. Food supplement for the maintenance of normal heart function
Omega-3 fatty acids
Unsaturated fatty acids are one of the most important dietary supplements when it comes to heart health. In line with the health claim “EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal heart function”, omega-3 fatty acids are said to have health-promoting effects on the cardiovascular system. Omega-3 fatty acids are considered one of the most scientifically studied groups of substances in food supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for the human body. They offer a protective effect on the heart and circulation, since omega-3 fatty acids have a positive effect on the blood lipid values and flow properties of the blood, as well as on blood pressure and heart rhythm.
As the exclusive distribution partner of the Norwegian company Epax Norway AS, Goerlich Pharma offers marine omega-3 concentrates in premium quality. The raw fish oil from the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) is obtained 100% from sustainable fishing and is certified by the independent organisation Friend of the Sea (FOS). The fishing areas, mainly in Peru, are among the cleanest in the world. The main source of marine omega-3 concentrates is the sister company Austral, which owns large fisheries and, like Epax, belongs to the Norwegian group Pelagia.

The microalgae are cultivated in specially closed bio-fermenters made of stainless steel under exclusion of light and with appropriate carbon-containing nutrient solutions. In addition to omega-3 fatty acids, there are several other nutrients for which health claims are permitted. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function. This mineral is also important for muscles that we cannot control voluntarily (smooth muscles and heart muscles). Thiamine (B1) contributes to the maintenance of normal heart function. The B vitamin is involved in energy metabolism, on which healthy muscle activity also depends. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal blood vessel function. As an antioxidant, it helps protect cells from oxidative stress. This also applies to these antioxidants and minerals: copper, manganese, olive oil polyphenols, riboflavin, selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc. Glucomannan and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) help maintain normal blood cholesterol levels.
We also offer basic formulations that are said to have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. These are ideal for creating combination products with approved health claims. Among them, for example, are green tea and isoflavone. Arginine is associated with a positive effect on the blood vessels, coenzyme Q 10 (ubiquinone) occurs naturally in all cells, is involved in particular in the provision of energy and thus acts as an antioxidant.
