Immune System
Food supplementation as a multi-talent in the service of our health
The immune system is – explained simply – our body’s defence system. A multitude of organs, cells and messenger substances belong to our immune system. In order for the body to show an immune response to pathogens such as bacteria, viruses or fungi, various body systems and organs have to work together. The most important components include the skin and the mucous membranes. These are often the first point of entry for many pathogens and the first defence reactions take place here. The immune system consists of innate (non-adaptive or natural) and acquired (adaptive or specific) immunity.
A positive effect on immune function is attributed to vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids, for example. You will also find these and other immune-specific micronutrients in our Immune System Supporting Basic Formulas.

Which food supplements strengthen the immune system?
Immune-specific micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements are essential for a healthy immune system. If these are not sufficiently supplied to the body through a balanced diet and a healthy, stress-free lifestyle, the intake of food supplements can provide support. Vitamin C has an antioxidant effect and scavenges free radicals. Known as the “sun vitamin”, vitamin D (actually a hormone) is fundamentally involved in the production of defence cells. Zinc and the B vitamins also play an important role in the functionality of our defence system.
Omega-3 fatty acids and the immune system:
Omega-3 fatty acids have an anti-inflammatory effect in our body. Taking high doses of omega-3 can positively support our immune system. This is because infections can lead to inflammatory processes in the organism. Here, the anti-inflammatory messengers from eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) can be a valuable help to the body.
Probiotics and the immune system:
Since many immune cells are located in the gut, gut health plays an important role in immune defence. Taking probiotics can have a supportive effect here. A multibacterial complex from the strains Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve and Lactobacillus casei.
The new consciousness: Health as a fundamental value since COVID-19
Meanwhile, the “health megatrend” is permeating all areas of our everyday lives and is defining entire lifestyles. Especially since the pandemic, the importance of physical integrity has become a key resource. 60% of consumers worldwide have become more aware of the importance of their immune health due to COVID-19 (2020). 70% of global consumers are taking steps to boost their immune health, compared to 53% who said this a year earlier (2020). This will constantly boost demand for immune-supportive products enormously.
