A good source of plant-based omega-3 with DHA and EPA is the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. It is able to naturally produce the essential omega-3 fatty acids DHA in large quantities and EPA in smaller quantities. The microalgae are grown in special closed containers. By cultivating the algae, the marine fish and krill stocks in the seas are protected. Algae oil is therefore an excellent alternative for vegetarians, vegans and people who do not eat fish. The same applies to allergy sufferers, because the algae oil does not contain any fish proteins that could potentially trigger allergies, unlike classic omega-3 capsules made from fish oil.

For example, the following consumption recommendation meets the conditions for the following health claims according to Regulation (EU) 432/2012: *

• 1 capsule per day: EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function. The positive effect occurs with a daily intake of 250 mg EPA and DHA.
• 2 capsules per day: DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision. The positive effect on vision and brain function occurs with a daily intake of 250 mg DHA.
