Glucomannan is extracted from the tubers of the konjac plant. In Asia, foods made from the konjac tuber have long been valued for their high satiety properties. The extracted glucomannan consists of long carbohydrate chains that are indigestible and are therefore classified as dietary fiber. When glucomannan comes into contact with water, it swells and takes up a lot of space in the stomach.

For example, with the recommended consumption of 3 sticks per day, the conditions for the following health claim according to Regulation (EU) 432/2012 are met:

• Glucomannan contributes to weight loss as part of a low-calorie diet. The claim applies to a daily intake of 3 g, whereby 1 g per serving must be consumed with water before meals as part of a low-calorie diet. *

For example, with the recommended consumption of 4 sticks per day, the condition for the following health claim according to Regulation (EU) 432/2012 is met:

• Glucomannan contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. This applies with a daily intake of 4 g in one or more servings. *
