As a full-service contract manufacturer for food supplements, we also offer the special process of coating tablets and soft capsules. The aesthetic and functional coating not only makes the product look good, but the polymer layers help make swallowing more pleasant, protect the contents and control the release of the active ingredient.
Determining the appropriate processes and coating materials requires practical experience and sensitivity. This is referred to as the "art of coating", which is analogous to the complex coating process. In our technical center, we have the opportunity to develop the appropriate process and the optimal process conditions.

Coating offers many possibilities
In German, the term “coating” refers to both the process used and the coating material used. Coating tablets or capsules is an important process step in the manufacture of food supplements.
There container be many reasons for coating. Application-related reasons may be the main focus, such as making the product easier to swallow or achieving a more pleasant mouthfeel by masking taste and odor. Film coating is also used for reasons of stability, for example, for active ingredients that are sensitive to moisture, oxygen, or light.
The coating technology of our tablet coating:
- Film coatings based on HPMC, HPC (cellulose) or PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) as well as PVA-PEG (polyvinyl alcohol with polyethylene glycol) approved for the food industry
- Wide selection of natural colors or transparent polymer layer for an attractive design of the product
- Flavouring the film, e.g. with vanillin or sweetener, provides a pleasant taste
- The natural substance shellac or ethylcellulose gives the soft capsule gastric juice resistance so that it container dissolve in a neutral pH environment (not possible for hard capsules)
